OUR MISSION

The mission and purpose of Marty’s Trust Foundation are to provide financial assistance and support to breast cancer patients and their families. We hope that some of the hardships they are experiencing will be lessened.

Established in 2022 Martys Trust Foundation is a non-profit that provides financial assistance and support to breast cancer patients who are in financial need as a result of this disease. The funds we raise are distributed directly to patients via the Marty’s Trust Foundation Patient Support Fund. Our goal is to help patients and their families when they are most in need to offer comfort and hope while at the same time providing financial assistance so they may remain focused on what is most important—their journey toward recovery.

Marty’s Trust Foundation connects people with trusted information and a community of support. The foundation was created to expand the knowledge and provide resources available to Breast Cancer patients Survivors and their families.

OUR EVENTS

MY STORY

My journey began with a routine mammogram scheduled for September 2020. A day later, I received a call to have an ultrasound followed by a biopsy. My results from the biopsy determined I had cancer. The news was devastating. I was in shock and disbelief.  Over the next several days, however, I realized God did not give me cancer, He gave me the strength to get through this horrible disease and to be a voice for others. No one should go through cancer alone.

Writing about such life-changing experiences is not easy, but if it helps others who might be going through something similar—knowing that you are not alone in your experience and that other people have survived as well—then I would consider this writing to be worthwhile.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, I had to face a lot of appointments with doctors. I was fortunate enough to have the best team of doctors who helped me through what lay ahead for me. My oncologist, my surgeon, and my family physician all reassured me, taught me, and cared for me.

I went through Chemotherapy for 6 weeks. The side effects of chemo were very difficult to deal with. I lost my hair after the second round. I was devastated and went into a very dark place, I was sad, depressed, and very insecure about the way I looked. Everything was happening so fast. I was no longer the same person. My treatment was followed by 24 rounds of radiation and two reconstruction surgeries. I was put through much to fight this horrible disease.

My belief and trust in God, helped me get through my most difficult days.  With time I got better and learned how to cope with the reality of what was happening and learned to accept the new me. I started to get involved in support groups, and therapy. I did a lot of research on nutrition and mental wellbeing. I received so much support from my family and community. I felt very blessed and fortunate. I want to share my journey and experiences and do what I can to help others as I know how hard it is to deal with cancer.

There are a lot of misconceptions about recovery and treatment. People believe that after treatment, you are healthy; this is far from the truth.  You are left with pulling yourself together after going through extensive recovery. The cold truth is that you are left with figuring out how to deal with the financial burden of cancer recovery. Then you emotionally must grieve what you have lost through cancer. My one takeaway from this experience is to, “TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME. KNOW AND TRUST THAT THERE WILL BE BETTER DAYS. YOU WILL BE OKAY AND SOME DAYS YOU WILL NOT.

I hope my story helps bring encouragement and hope to others in need.

Remember with FAITH AND TRUST IN THE LORD ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Love,
Martha Reyna
